Beach Blaze, Ceramics Cooked

I just realized I’d forgotten to post this! The Clay Studio, where I work, had its annual Beach Firing Fundraiser at Middle Cove last month.

We dug a large fire pit, wrapped ceramics in seaweed and other natural combustibles, covered them and set them ablaze over the course of an afternoon.

The result was a boatload of beautifully fired ceramic pieces for sale in support of the Craft Council’s Clay Studio. Visitors got to enjoy experiencing the ancient art of pit firing, and attndance was great!

Thank you to Jennifer Barnable who took these incredible photos of the event, and to all the fantastic volunteers who helped make the day a success!

There are a few pieces remaining from the beach firing, if you’d like to see them in person or buy one for a conversation piece. Just drop by the Craft Council Shop at 59 Duckworth Street, St. John’s, NL.

Cheers,
Wendy
